Blue Power Ear Treatment

Yes, this is the recipe for the legendary Blue Power Ear Treatment!

Remember to always consult with your veterinarian before attempting to treat ear problems on your own.

If your dog has a ruptured eardrum, this treatment could further damage the dog's hearing.

This treatment is for external use only and you should be careful not to get into the eyes.

INGREDIENTS:
16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%

You can substitute Witch Hazel for the Alcohol if the ears are very sore or inflamed.

If you can only find Gentian Violet in a 2% solution, then use 8 drops.

Mix the ingredients together in the alcohol bottle and shake well. You will also need to shake the solution well before every use to evenly distribute the Boric Acid Powder

We like to use a squirt bottle to apply the solution to the dog's ears. You can also use an ear syringe available at most pharmacies or a "Clairol" type plastic bottle found at Beauty Supply Stores.

Shake the bottle before each use. Flood the ear with solution and massage gently. The dog will shake out the excess so stand back. You'll want to be wearing old clothes because the Gentian Violet stains fabrics.

Schedule of Treatment:
Treat 2x per day for the first week or two depending on how bad it is. Treat 1x per day for the next 1 or 2 weeks

Treat 1x per month (or even less frequently, depending on the dog)

All of these ingredients should be available at your pharmacy. The Boric Acid Powder soothes the ear. The Gentian Violet Solution is an anti-infection agent. This solution appears to work well on ear mites, infections, wax, and many other ear problems.

This treatment has also been found to be effective for hot spots, cuts, and fungus-type infections.
