Rescued Mastiffs

This page is about one of the Mastiffs that we rescued since we have been involved in Mastiffs in 2001. We get phone calls occasionally from people that no longer want their beloved Mastiff or other breed of dog, so we rescue and re-home these pets for them. We do not keep these pets for ourselves and we do not breed them. We try to rehabilitate them if needed as best we can before re-homing them. All of this is done at our own expense with no help from any outside sources or organizations! Go to our information page to read if the Mastiff breed is right for you. After reading all the helpful information provided and you have decided you are interested in owning a Mastiff click here to fill out our questionnaire for available dogs or to be put on our mailing list for notification of litters.

Larry's story - A heartbreaking rescued Mastiff's story!
In November 2005 we received a call from a Mastiff owner that wanted to get rid of his Mastiff and that if we "didn't come get him he was going to the pound. I'm tired of fooling with him." (those were his EXACT words!). Well there was NO WAY we were going to let this Mastiff end up in the pound!! He would have either been put to sleep or ended up in the wrong hands and would have been bred since he was intact. We went to the house IMMEDIATELY. When we got there it turned out that this Mastiff was our boy Diesel's half-brother!! They have the same sire - CH Creekview's King Henry of Safe Haven. Diesel and this rescue are three weeks apart in age! His dam is Gentle Giants Lady Elsbeth. Both the stud dog owner and the bitch owner (the breeder) were contacted and neither one seemed interested in helping this wonderful animal in his desperate time of need.

He was emaciated and had a horrible skin condition! Every bone on his sides could be seen and his hip bones were poking out because he was so emaciated. It was very sad and we knew we had to save him. We brought him home, fed him some raw food and then took him to our vet the next day for a check up. At that time he was close to six years old and he weighed 140 pounds compared to Diesel weighing 190 pounds! He had ear fungus so we got medicine for that and we got special shampoo for his coat. We brought him home from the vet, treated his ears and then gave this poor guy a bath. He was very sad and it broke our hearts to see a Mastiff in this condition. What was his former owner thinking!!?? That he could starve him and then he wouldn't have to deal with him and have to pay his vet bills any longer!!!??? What's even more sad is that the former owner had another Mastiff there and she was healthy and fine!! We were also told that Larry had just been bred to the healthy girl right before we picked him up!!!! The breeding didn't take, thank goodness!!

We have been feeding, taking care of and rehabilitating this guy for 6 months. He gets along great with all of our other Mastiffs including his brother Diesel. We have gotten his weight up to 156 pounds. His weight gain has been gradual as it should be. In the condition that he was in when we saved him it would've been dangerous to put weight on him too fast. After switching him to raw food his skin problem has cleared up and his coat looks wonderful. We had excellent results resolving his ear problems by using the Blue Power Ear Wash that we were making. HAPPY UPDATE: Larry has a forever home!!
One night Candi was at home by herself while Tracy was out with his band at a gig when somebody showed up at our house. Candi knew the visitors. They are very good friends of ours and we've baby-sat their Great Danes for them in the past. She was very upset and crying. Candi asked what was wrong and was told that her Dane had bloated and died. Candi thought the friend was at the house to be consoled and that was okay. They talked about her loss, hugged and cried about Bubba being gone. Then she told Candi she wanted a Mastiff! At first Candi was telling her about the upcoming Dawn litter. The friend seemed disinterested in a puppy. She then said "Don't you have Diesel's brother here?". Candi was shocked that somebody just showed up out of the blue and actually wanted to help save this poor dog that needed rescuing! We had not advertised about him, or that he needed a forever home and had only told a few people that we had Larry here. She knew we had Larry here because she works with Tracy and he had mentioned to her that we had this poor creature. The whole thing just fell into our laps literally!!

These are pictures of Larry at his forever home where he is being spoiled and loved very much. These pictures were taken after we put 15 pounds on him. He still has more to add, but we know that he'll reach that goal eventually.
Larry and Diesel are definitely brothers! They look very much alike. We hope that when Larry is nursed back to health completely and has all of his weight back on that he will look exactly like Diesel!
Such sadness behind his eyes.
Relaxing at his forever home.
